Hugh Jackman in ‘Real Steel’

A new full-length trailer for the sci-fi boxing story Real Steel, starring Hugh Jackman, was released May 10, looking like a combination of The Fighter and Iron Man.

The footage shows Jackman as a washed-up boxer who turns to promoting fights between 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots who have taken over the ring. But his character’s huge battling hunks of metal end up in the scrap heap.

When Jackman tries to train a sparring ‘bot’ for the World Robot Boxing Championship, he takes his last shot at a comeback and reconnecting with his son.

Also stars Dakota Goyo (young Thor in Thor), Anthony Mackie and Evangeline Lilly (The Hurt Locker), Hope Davis (American Splendor), and Kevin Durand (Robin Hood).

The film is directed by Shawn Levy (Date Night, Night at the Museum films), who departs from his usual comedies and romantic-comedies with Real Steel. It is executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis.

The film opens October 7 in North America, the UK and Hong Kong, rolls out to Singapore and France the next week, and Germany, Sweden and Argentina in November.
